Quick travel tips #2
Travelling can be fun, but if you don’t plan ahead, sometimes vacations can be more like trials of torture than trips of leisure. Here are some travel trips to keep in mind, so you aren’t caught off guard on your next trip.
1: Preplan the first and last night accommodations as they are the most important. For example, if you have a late arriving flight, not calling ahead of time to prepare the front office about your arrival could turn a fun vacation into a slumber party in the hotel parking lot.
2: Invest in travel insurance, like medical, and coverage for luggage and other personal belongings in case they lost or stolen. In regards to health, it would also be wise to get any recommended vaccinations before departing. The flu shot might be a good idea!
3: Ensure that you have all of the proper credentials to travel, such as visas, passports as well as copies of important documents like credit card numbers.
4: Leave a detailed copy of travel plans with family or a trusted contact back home. This will ensure that in the rare instance that you are lost your search party will have a point of reference.
5: Prepare all necessary navigation and socializing supplements such as maps, GPS, downloadable travel guides, translation books and other conversation tools. A compass, a watch with international time zones, and an iPod with an audio book travel guide can be lifesavers if you find yourself in an unexpected situation. Try your best to plan ahead.
6: Pack snacks. You never know how long you will be traveling until your next rest stop, or the next time you will see a fast food restaurant. Depending on your destination and appetite, you might find the food to be disagreeable, but don’t let it ruin your trip. Pack light snacks just in case you need them to get you by.
All of the above advice can be summarised as “PLAN AHEAD!”. Even in a country as safe and accommodating as Australia, you’ll have the time of your life if you follow these tips!
